| Bio-Security & Swine Flu |
Dear 4-H Members and Volunteers: There have been a few cases of swine influenza reported in humans recently. For more on this, please check the following information posted on the California Department of Food and Agriculture's website: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/Animal_Health/Swine_Health.html Additionally, this situation is a reminder to all of us involved in raising and showing of live animals to practice good bio-security at home and at fairs and exhibitions. The attached document is a bio-security checklist designed for 4-H by 4-H staff and researchers in Veterinary Medicine Extension at the University of California, Davis. We encourage you to use this checklist on a regular basis to assess your bio-security practices. Lastly, if your animal shows any signs of illness, please contact your veterinarian and have your animal examined. Sincerely, 4-H Animal Science Advisory Committee Martin H. Smith Associate Specialist in Cooperative Extension Veterinary Medicine Extension 1373 Surge III One Shields Avenue University of California Davis, CA 95616 From the Placer County 4-H Office PLEASE NOTE: Youth Fair is going forward as planned.
