Welcome to the Placer and Nevada Counties' resource for eating local. We have compiled the information you need to get started eating locally produced food.
Why eat local? There are numerous reasons to eat locally produced food. Key among them is the variety, freshness and overall flavor you just can't find at the supermarket. Eating locally allows you to connect to your local agricultural community by building relationships with local farmers and ranchers, while learning about the seasonality of foods.

Where to start? Consider starting with a small commitment that you can reasonably keep. For example, join a CSA and get a weekly box of produce or visit a farmers market each week, purchasing enough food for one meal each week. Preserve the flavors into the off-season by purchasing a flat of fruit or tomatoes and try your hand at making jam, tomato sauce or pickles.
The diversity of our local communities and many microclimates make for great eating year-round. The same microclimates have also made the region known for its signature crops: hoshigaki (dried persimmons), Mandarins and Meyer lemons.
