
Program Information
Nutrition BEST (Better, Education, Skills, & Training) is a program offered through the University of California Cooperative Extension and supported by the First-5 Placer County Children and Families Commission. Nutrition BEST is geared toward families with children 0-5 years old, and has been created to accomplish one major goal:
- Help to ensure the healthy growth & development of children in Placer County through improved nutrition education, outreach, & resources for families with young children.
Objectives for Families:
- Choose appropriate nutrition levels for family members
- Choose more fruits & vegetables
- Share more family meals
- Make fewer & better “fast-food” choices
- Encourage physical activity
- Understand the benefits of breastfeeding
Program Delivery Methods:
- Parent education & training
- Childcare and healthcare professional trainings & conferences
- Nutrition consultation “warm-line”
- Agency collaboration
If you are a parent, childcare professional, healthcare professional or someone who deals with children 0-5 years old Nutrition BEST is here to serve you! We offer:
- Interactive nutrition education workshops and presentations to parents, staff and professionals.
- Brochures, pamphlets, and displays covering a variety of nutrition topics.
- Newsletters
- Support. Call us if you have nutrition question.
- Activity and recipe ideas to involve and educate young children about all aspects of healthy eating.
