4-H Citizenship Project
"Citizenship is acting with informed concern for self and others through exercising of one's rights, duties, and responsibilities as a citizen of society." National 4-H Council
The 4-H Citizenship Project focuses on five main topics:
Focus I: Personal Development and Self Esteem
- Develop understanding of one's self to enhance positive relations with one's family and peers.
- Acquire life skills to become an active responsible member of one's family, community, state, nation, or international group.
Focus II: History and Cultural Heritage
- Develop appreciation for the history and heritage of one's family, community, state, and nation.
- Develop awareness and understanding of cultures and nationalities other than one's own.
Focus III: Government Studies and Leadership
- Develop knowledge of the principles, processes and structures of government.
- Develop leadership skills for active participation in the affairs of local, state, national and international organizations.
Focus IV: Environmental Issues and Citizens
- Develop awareness and understanding of environmental issues and the human impact.
- Contribute to the development of one's community through the group decision-making process.
Focus V: Societal Concerns and the Citizen's Role
- Develop awareness and understanding of societal issues impacting self and others in one's community.
- Respond to the needs and rights of others through responsible individual and group social action.
